SHG Women rearing cattle for dairy farming
T he desire for economic sustainability always creates a human impulse to look for alternatives for profit and growth.
The women from Ambika Kalanjiam SHG from DHAN's Hingoli region, too, successfully created such avenues for economic alternatives with Dairy Farming.
The SHG was established in the year 2015 through Akashzep Kalanjiam Women's Federation Hingoli under the Dhan Foundation.
The SHG was given the first loan from Kalanjiam Development Financial Services (KDFS) in the year 2017 from which the SHG women bought livestock of 3 buffalos and thus started dairy farming.
“We are looking at creating self-help groups for self-employment with the aim of providing maximum employment to women in self-help groups. And we are planning to ensure that women in rural and urban areas get employment in their own villages. Due to this, women are becoming self-reliant and standing on their own feet and this is our goal. ”

With their hard work and efforts and more financial assistance from KDFS, the endeavour slowly expanded to about 24 buffaloes, producing 70 to 80 litres of milk per day by the year 2019-20. The milk was sold for a cost of 40-45 Rupees per litre, creating a total saving of 13,000 rupees per woman in five years. This also led to a total profit of around Rs. 45,000 to 50,000 for the SHG based on the margin earned for an internal loan.
Mr. Anil Dawane, the Block Integrator of Akashzep Kalanjiam Women's Federation, says,'' We are looking at creating self-help groups for self-employment with the aim of providing maximum employment to women in self-help groups.
