Nila Oorani is located in ward No. 28 of Madurai
Corporation, situated near to HCL ELCOT Campus, Madurai.
This is one of the several Ooranis which lost its
significance amidst the urbanization. Prosopis Juliflora
in abundance, unknown whereabouts of the Oorani’s
boundaries, and tank siltation were a few among several
problems existed in the Oorani.
DHAN Foundation, under the
Project REVIVAL, in the month of November, cleared
Prosopis Juliflora in 0.75 acres. Tank desilting works had
been done. Approximately 9000 cubic meters of silt was
excavated, creating dead storage and tank bund formation.
Tank boundaries were demarcated with the aid of city
corporation. Preliminary DGPS survey, GIS analysis and
estimations were prepared before the work execution.
