DHAN’s Munger region is working in four locations – Tarapur, Asarganj, H. Kharagpur and Dharhara – since 2015 with the CSR collaboration of ITC MSK. Most of the associated members are agricultural labourers and wage labourers.
Indigenous Agricultural Practices
Based on the demand from the farmers in the Vayalagam People Institutions across the region, 1200 farmers were provided with nine tonnes of hybrid variety of paddy seeds for the cultivation in the Khariff season, to be sown in 1500 acres of agricultural land. Direct Seeded Rice (DSR), one of the oldest methods of crop establishments, low-inputs demanding methodology has been introduced across the Vayalagam People Institutions through organizing 28 training programmes to enhance the crop productivity. A total of 105 acres in July month has been cultivated using Direct Seeded Rice method across the three locations of Munger region viz., Asarganj, Tarapur and H. Kharagpur

Converting Water Bodies into Bio-diversity Hubs
A Tripartite collaborative agreement among forest department, ITC and their partner NGOs for plantation works has been signed during pre-2020. As per the agreement, forest department need to provide 95,000 tree saplings free of cost to DHAN Foundation.
So far 50,000 tree saplings have been lifted from the forest department, out of which 36,000 have been planted on the bund of our water bodies. Saplings majorly constitutes of Mahogini, Jamun, Amaltash, and Sagwan of Timber varieties. Training programme will be organized for People Institutions farmers to ensure the plants’ sustainability and durability.
