Historic Thirupuvanam of Sivagangai District
T hirupuvanam which exists on the Vaigai River Nort bank where 36th Thiruvilaiyadal happened is 21 km from Madurai on the traditional trade of Rameswaram. This place is famous for its Arulmigu Poovananathaswami had been praised by Gnanasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar, Sundarar, Manickavasagar and Karuvur Thevar in their hymns and 10th in the List of 14 important Temple of Pandya Country with the inscriptions of early and Late Pandyas. Further, the Madapuram is famous for more than 1000 years old Adaikalam Katha Ayyanar, Pathirakaliamman, and ruined Siva temple with stone Inscriptions (of early Pandya and Rajaraja Chola). Rajasingakulam, the historic heritage Tank of Thirupuvanam was expanded by Rajasimma Pandian (910AD-933AD).
