Community Response towards COVID-19

The outbreak of the covid-19 lead to lockdown announcementand its subsequent extensions to curbthe transmission chain and to contain the communal spread. Yet the unprecedented nation’s lockdown associated with the unpreparedness of the community as well as the government bodies resulted in chaotic situations in the lives of the people especially the migrants who locked in other states as well as the vulnerable sections whose sustenance depends on their daily wages, who have literally zero to very less savings for the future.

DHAN Foundation since its initiation in 2 October 1997 has its values rooted in Grassroots action at the community level, Collective Collaborations in addressing the problems in the society, Enabling the community for action, striving for Innovation, Excellence and Self-Regulation in all its implementations and executions.

DHAN Foundation response toward the COVID-19 is instant and the institution through its 3000 field staff and professionals have been engaged in building awareness in the community, connecting with the community through the available sources and mediums. Around 10,000 community volunteers have been involved and engaged in creating awareness and carrying out relief activities and ensuring entitlements and generating livelihoods opportunities for DHAN’s more than 18 lakh families which are spread across the nation – from the natives of Assam in the north east, tribals of Rajasthan in north west, the fishermen of Ramnad and the slum dwellers in urban and peri-urban in southern part.

DHAN Foundation has conceived addressing the pandemic disaster into three phases at national level:

  1. Relief Phase for the next three months,
  2. Restoration and Rehabilitation Phase for the next two to three years, and subsequently graduating to
  3. Sustainable Resilience Phase in the long run.

Of all the three phases, the relief phase is very crucial in maintaining the harmony among the various sections of the people in the community.
