Kalanjiam SHGs, VayalagamAFGs were not just mere micro-finance structures, wherein savings and credit alone will happen. These institutions enable the community with mutuality and ownership. These institutions facilitate the women to anchor various leadership roles and farmers to act as implementers thereby owners of the implemented works.
In the face of any disaster, these institutions must serve as a safety net to its members in terms of supporting basic needs, ensuring their good health and facilitating their finances. The Kalanjiam and Vayalagam federations across the different states have started to serve their purpose in the face of lockdown.
Beed Region
In Beed Region, Board of Directors of Parali, Shirur, Patoda locations discussed over Federation level mutuality fund allocations and planned to allocate Rs. 3.5 lakhs as mutuality fund to combat covid-19.
Toothukudi Region
a. Disaster Funds
Vayalagam members contributed Rs. 37700 as disaster risk fund. The fund will be utilized in buying vegetable kits and groceries in the future months, if the lockdown gets extended.
b. Revolving Fund
So far, Toothukudi Regionfederations have received Rs.8.75 lakhs from BPCL,5.25lakhs received from HPOE for farmponds works,Rs. 4.00lakhs from CARITAS for ensuring organic farming and Rs.13.17 Lakhs from HUF. Totally, the region has received Rs.31.17 lakhs and utilized as revolving fundat the federation level.
Thanjavur Region
In Thanjavur Region 350 groups have repaid their loan outstanding of Rs. 22 lakhs.18000 members in five federations have renewed OGIfor a cost coverage assurance varying from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 1,20,000 as per the age and credit facilitated to the members in the kalanjiam.
Chittoor Region
In Chittoor region, 102 groups in Chittoor urban and Madhanapalli federations have repaid their loan outstanding of Rs. 23.5 lakhs and Rs. 10 lakhs respectively to the banks.
Hyderabad Region
In Hyderabad Region, four groups have repaid their loan outstanding amount to a tune of Rs. 72,200.
Solapur and Osmanabad
The region has formulated the bank linkage plan for the Financial Year 2020-2021 for 793 groups, amount totaling to Rs. 17 crores. The kalanjiam groups will be collaborated with eight different banks viz., Syndicate or Canara bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Bank of India, State Bank of India, Indian Bank, IDBI, Central Bank, Maharashtra Grameen bank in eight blocks.
Theni Region
For the financial year 2020-2021, the key focus is given to revolving fund assistance and sanctioning loans to members for livelihoods and housing purpose. For the current year 2019-2020, In Theni region, 462 groups are scheduled and planned to get linkage with Indian bank to an amount of Rs.20.36crores and 148 groups in Peermedu federation are planned to get linkage with UBI to the tune of Rs.7.24crores.In addition to that Rs.5.22crores of revolving fund assistance is planned to avail from Axis Bank Foundation for the locations in Idukki district.
Mysore
In the financial year 2020-2021,457 eligible groups will be provided bank linkage to the tune of Rs. 12 crores, which will be a great boon to the all the members in the phase of unemployment due to the pandemic.
Pambar Region
Amidst lockdown, most of the members lost their livelihood and facing financial crisis in the region. Through the revolving fund of DHANA project and bank linkages, short term loans have been provided to the members. Credit worth Rs. 33,58,500 has been provided to 840 members (60 groups) through DHANA project revolving fund. Credit worth Rs. 92,81,000has been provided to 319 members (37 groups) through bank linkages.
Thiruvallur Region
In Thiruvallur Region, members who have completely lost their livelihood and in huge financial crisis were provided with internal loans of amount worth Rs 3000 to Rs. 5000.
Vijayapur Region
To handle the lockdown situation and financial crunch, Rs. 12.5 lakhs SHG loans have been disbursed to the kalanjiam members in Indi block of Vijayapur region.
Munger Region
Following the social distancing and government guidelines, 42 AFG meetings have been conducted in the region, wherein 66 members who are in dire need of finances have availed internal loans of Rs. 3,30, 500 to sustain their living during covid-19 lockdown. In addition to this, emergency group meetings have been held for 11 AFGs to satisfy the immediate needs of the members. 18 members have availed internal loans of Rs. 44,200 to satisfy the immediate needs of their families.
Northern Locations (Included Banswara in Rajasthan, Dhar and Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, Latehar and Ranchi in Jharkhand, Gaya in Bihar, and Nalbari and Baskha of Assam)
Out of 21 locations, four locations are having fund at the federation level. Out of four, Sailana federation has allocated resilience building Fund of Rs.1.50 lakhs. Each Kalanjiam accepted to contribute Rs.1500 as a first instalment for Resilience Building Fund. The Fund will be utilized for Disaster Management.
