Awareness Songs Release

Unanticipated lockdown forced the communities into uncertainties about their future. Staying safe at houses anticipated breaking the transmission chain and containing the communal spread yet the idle minds with the enveloped the fears associated with the lockdown extensions resulting in dejected environment in the houses, affecting the people psychologically. Furthermore,this is leading to people disobeying social distancing, not using masks and other preventive practices in some locations.The need of hour in these prevailing situations is a supporting word providing hope in the lives of the community’s future, a parenting word preaching the community to practice preventive measures and to put safe at their houses.


To address the prevailing situations – giving hope, preaching preventive practices, suggesting the community to stay at homes – DHAN Foundation’s Folklore unit of Center for Communication Development has composed ten songs. On 24th April 2020, Madurai District collector Dr.T.G. Vinay IAS has released Covid-19 awareness songs audio CD. The songs have been circulated through online and social media platforms and also played at community radio centers.

DHAN’s Talk on Development – Video series

DHAN Foundation’s regions response to COVID-19 is instant by evolving a conceptual framework and initiating the phased approach in addressing the disaster. The four phases include coping phase, adaption phase, transformation phase and resilience phase.

Coping phase primarily aimed at carrying out relief activities with focus on health and addressing the basic needs. The corona pandemic has brought many challenges. There is a need to shift to a “New Normal” situation. Enabling community to adapt to new normal is very critical.Presently we are in the relief phase. The staff of DHAN Collective are operating on a 24 * 7 basis in reaching communities using appropriate technologies and with the support of the mainstream. More importantly the leaders of community institutions are highly active in building awareness.

Likewise,under the adaptation phase, the focus will be on restoration of livelihoods by adapting to the new situation and working with mainstream for health and livelihoods. The Transformation phase will facilitate sustainable behavioral change and well-being with respect to health and livelihoods. The fourth phase would focus on building resilience of community and their institutions to combat the situation with greater resistance.

To connect with DHAN’s associated 18 lakhhouseholds across 14 states and to dissipate DHAN’s perspectives, practices and plans to ensure the health, financial and overall well-beings of our member families, DHAN’s Talk on Development – a short YouTube video series has been initiated on 23rd April 2020. Senior colleagues, community and well-wishers will deliver their messages and coping mechanisms to combat COVID-19 through the YouTube video series.
