Issue 6: Jan - Mar 2026
www.vf.dhan.orgGreetings !!!
Waterways continue to share the experiences of communities strengthening water governance, restoring water bodies, and improving livelihoods through collective action. During the quarter January to March 2026, the Vayalagam Movement focused on community-led water management, capacity building, sustainable agriculture, and institutional strengthening across different regions.
The lead article, “Beyond Infrastructure: People’s Institutions as the Leading Link in Effective Irrigation and Drainage,” highlights the importance of people’s institutions in ensuring equitable and sustainable irrigation management. This issue also features World Water Day events conducted with ICID and ICAR-IARI, exposure visits, leadership programmes, cascade management training, and the Water Immersion Programme that enhanced learning and collaboration among farmers and community leaders.
We also present inspiring field stories, including the agricultural transformation of Mrs. S. Devi through scientific farming practices and the integrated organic farming model of Mr. Murali from Kolar. Another major highlight of this quarter is the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Vayalagam Mutual Movement, marking 25 years of collective efforts in water conservation and community development.
We invite you to explore this edition of Waterways, which brings together knowledge, experiences, and inspiring community initiatives towards sustainable water and livelihood development.
