A wide range of financial literacy programmes are being conducted for the tribal communities belong to Banswara district, Rajasthan. Thanks to Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL) which is a pilot project initiated by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with the joint venture of Bank of Baroda, Rajasthan and DHAN Foundation in Rajasthan. The pilot project is being implemented in five tribal blocks of Banswara district (the most backward district) viz., Anandpuri, Bagidora, Gangartalai, Sajjangarh and Kushalgarh. DHAN Foundation with its more than two and half decade experience and expertise designed the framework, arrived at the methods and techniques to provide financial literacy. Accordingly, six modules were developed: 1. Financial Planning and Budgeting, 2. Saving and Investment, 3. Remittance at Digital Banking, 4. Social Security schemes, 5. Credit and Repayment ethics and 6. Customer education and Protection. The various activities included in the project are: 1. Financial Literacy Awareness Programme (FLAP), 2. Financial Inclusion Group (FIG) Promotion 3. Village Campaign 4. Digital Banking College Campaign
1. Village Campaign Outcome
On 4th and 5th February 2020, village campaign was organized in Rohaniya village of Gangartalai block and Palivillage of Sajjangarh block respectively. The key focus of the campaign is account opening, savings mobilization, KYC update, and enrolment in PMSBY, PMJJBY, ensuring ATM services and SSY.
On 4th February 2020, in Rohaniya village of Gangartalai block, bank accounts were opened for 24 members, 24 members have updated their KYC, 15 members were enrolled in PMSBY (Rs. 12/-), two members were enrolled in PMJJBY (Rs. 330/-), 20 members have applied for ATM services and 20 members have applied for SSY.
On 5th February 2020, in Pali village of Sajjangarh block, bank accounts were opened for 13 members, 13 members have updated their KYC, 53 members were enrolled in PMSBY (Rs. 12/-),one member was enrolled in PMJJBY (Rs. 330/-), one more member applied for ATM services and 22 members have applied for SSY.
2. Digital Banking College Campaign Outcome
On 3rd February 2020, a digital banking college campaign was organized in Mansi MahaVidyale, Anandpuri block of Banswara district. 92 students had participated in the campaign and understood about the digital banking.
A baseline survey was conducted during the campaign to know the status of students’enrolments in the government schemes or entitlements. Survey data showed that majority of the students have not availed any schemes and entitlement provided by the government due to lack of financial literacy.
3. FIG (Financial Inclusion Group) Promotion Outcome
Financial Inclusion Group promotion is done every month since the inception of the pilot project. Till date, we have reached 4258 families, where household survey for all these families in all the five blocks has been going. Financial services will be ensured to the families after analysing the survey reports. For Block-wise the reach of the FIGs is Anandpuri (78 families), Baridora (79 families), Kushalgarh (60 families), Sajjangarh (56 families), GangarTalai (94families). A total of 367 families in all the five blocks were oriented in financial inclusion promotion in the month of February 2020.
4. Financial Literacy Awareness Programme (FLAP) Outcome
As per the plan the FLAP has been conducting in the entire CFL project area. Through FIG groups are regularly getting financial awareness on all the six modules. The status of January 2020 is Anadpuri block (90 families), Bagidora (79 families) Kushalgarh (79 families), Sajjangarh (61 families), Gangartalai (108 families). A total of 417 families in all the five blocks have been given awareness on financial literacy.
