Relief Activities for COVID-affected families
O ur colleagues from the Thanjavur federation, like others, faced huge challenges due to the pandemic. Inspite of all odds, the Kalanjiam groups ensured they leave no stone unturned in conducting activities to combat COVID-19.
Through mass vaccination awareness drives, around 75% of the Kalanjiam members were vaccinated with the first shot while 30 % were vaccinated with the second shot. With the health associates and kalanjiam associates team, a lot of awareness was laid on observation of symptoms, and testing through camps. Home isolation and quarantine methods with minimum medical prescriptions were done in collaboration with mainstream medical practitioners. Also, for those with symptom persistence for more than 5 days reference was being made to concerned doctors virtually with the support of SUHAM doctors, E- Sanjeevini app.

Leaders in urban federations also did an active role in circulating local pulmonologist contact numbers and consultation possibilities in person to handle mild lung infections. Around 60 infected members were treated on time avoiding any further complications.
Inspite of the lockdown situation, the Kalanjiam groups were able to secure around Rs. 2.5 crore for the members with rightful collaborations with the banks and after proper counselling of the members.
Due to partial and full lockdowns by the government, the livelihood of the members was highly affected. Around 320 members opted for alternative livelihood like fruit, vegetable vending, a mess to cook and provide parcel food supply etc. Around 32 lakhs is given to support their initiative. Totally around Rs. 2.05 crs ( 82%) credit is provided to different livelihoods in this period to support the members and their families.
Alternate livelihood practice amongst Community Members
Through Jeevidam around 5 tonnes of fertilizers were supplied to the women farmers and it has helped them to save around a 10% cost increase in the inputs during this lockdown. Also, they have initiated monthly grocery supply to the members in Tanjore rural and urban federations and so far 53 members have benefited with a value of 2.05 lakhs.
