K. Selvi - Water Women Champion
Water - the elixir of life.
We have often heard the above quote, haven’t we? And of course why not? Can we imagine a life without water? The answer will always be a big no!
It is with this intention to promote water conservation and to salute the water heroes amongst us that UNDP has initiated the ‘Water Champions’ Initiative.
Last month, the National Water Mission (NVM), Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with UNDP and its partners organized a virtual event to 'Felicitate Women Water Champions (WWC)'.As a part of the event, various women who were nominated as ‘water champions’ spoke to the NWM about their experiences and learnings working on the ground in various districts across the country.
An exemplary record of women-led community participation and citizen action in the water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH) sector. With participation from the larger fraternity, the event gained a viewership of about 3k across the NWM and UNDP platforms.
As a part of the event, K.Selvi from Kallupatti town in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu was selected as one of the ’water champions’.
