K ollimalai, a small mountain range is situated on the Eastern Ghats at an altitude of 1200 mts in the Namakkal District and is 45 km from Namakkal town. Kollimalai is known for its medicinal herbs and plants that grow in abundance on the hill slopes. The Kollimalai is featured in several works of classical Sangam Tamil literature such as Silappathigaram, Manimekalai, Purananuru, Natrinai, etc. The region was ruled by Valvil Ori around 200 A.D., who is praised as one of the seven great philanthropists of ancient Tamil Nadu. Kollimalai is rich with many myths like Kollipavai mother Goddess who protects these hills. Many Heritage and archaeological sites like Arapaleeswar temple, Nadukal, and Jain monuments. This hill is famous for its ecological beauty and waterfalls like Akaya Gangai and Masila Waterfalls.
