T he name of the hill itself explains its association with Jainism. This hill lies near the village Keelakuilkudi, 15km west of Madurai Nagamalai Pudukottai. Jainism existed here from 300 BC with the Brahmi inscription belonging to 200 BC. In this village, three important Jain vestiges are found in Chettipudavu, Pechipallam, and Madeviperumpalli which speak about the existence and flourishing nature of Jainism during the 9-10 Century A.D. It is a picturesque place with a lotus pond at the foot of the hill Samanamalai.
