Budget Watch

On 7th February 2021, The DHAN Academy organized the Budget Watch at DHAN Foundation Central Office, Madurai. Participants joined the event both virtually and in-person. 60 students from different colleges took part in the meeting along with the TDA students.

In terms of tax and related things, it’s a neutral budget. Because of the COVID, there is huge expenditure allocation for health sector with the idea to have both curative and preventive measures. This will affect the people positively and improve their social well-being. This focus will help the health sector as a whole. Second huge expenditure focusses on infrastructure. Especially, more focus on road sector, metro rails, railways improvement also. This helps to increase the connectivity and improve the employment opportunities.

Shri R. Gandhi, Former Deputy Governor, RBI

Budget boost towards the health and infrastructure is very much welcoming. The census increases show that we are going in the right direction. Given our savings rate, minimum multiplier effect of at least four times of what we have spent will definitely boost the aggregate demand. This was advocated by many economists also.

Dr. J. Sadakkadulla, Former Regional Director (Retd.), RBI

Amidst the pandemic, many schemes announced in the last budget neither addressed in the current budget nor reallocated. More so, it seems most of the budget structure was allocated to the upcoming election states. Rural infrastructure wasn’t addressed in the budget and no announcements addressing the petrol and diesel rates.
