While the fight with global pandemic is still on-going across the globe, so does the nature’s wrath on humankind.When the wrath of Amphan Cyclone in Eastern India is still fresh, the nation is witnessing another disaster affecting people lives and livelihoods. A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal resulted in heavy downpours in southern and western India, flooding the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The houses have been severely damaged, roads and bridged inundated with flood water and completed destroyed and disrupted power supply darkened the lives of lakhs of people. More than 300,000 people are affected due to floods and more than 10,000 people are currently sheltered in the relief centres across the four states. Heavy rains in Maharashtra have filled up the various dams in Maharashtra, resulting in lifting up the dam gates. Almost 8 lakh cusecs of water were released to Bhima river from Ujini and Veer dam of Maharashtra, consequently submerging nearly 500 villages of North Karnataka, severely flooding Vijayapura, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga and Belgam districts. DHAN Gulbarga region response was quick in assessing the flood severity through RAPID assessment report.

The assessments revealed nearly 148 villages were severely affected and were completed isolated across the region. Out of 148 villages, DHAN is working in 21 villages, associated with 2500 families. DHAN Gulbarga region initiated flood relief activities mobilising funds from the individual local philanthropists and kalanjiam community organizations. As on 26th October 2020, 1500 members across 18 villages were provided with relief support – grocery kits, cooked food, clothes, sanitary pads etc. DHAN Karnataka regions – Tumkur region, Mysore region, Ramanagara region – have commenced mobilizing funds to extend the financial aid to Gulbarga flood affected areas. “It is the time to showcase our fraternity and social responsibility by way of contributing to the deprived sections in Gulbarga district”
