As part of stabilizing and enhancing the livelihood of pushcart millet porridge vendors under the action project on “Scaling up Small Millet Post-harvest and Nutritious Food Products”, DHAN Foundation has organized a training session for them on Food Safety and Hygiene Practices at office of Kalanjiam Foundation in Salem on 27th November 2017. The session was attended by 16 vendors from various places of Salem. In the group discussion on the topic, the participants shared good practices on food hygiene and safety followed by them right now with other participants.
While distributing hygienic kits to the vendors in the function, Dr.Bhanupriya, Food Safety Officer from Salem Corporation emphasized the need for taking FSSAI Certificate and following personal hygiene and cleanliness by the vendors. Mr.Manikandan, Project Executive, DHAN Foundation motivated the vendors to follow appropriate food hygiene and safety practices such as serving with long handled ladle, serving water in closed containers like water can with a tap, using lids for covering side dishes and wearing apron, hand gloves and head cover. The participants showed keen interest to follow suitable hygienic practices. They also showed keen interest to take FSSAI Certificate and join in labour welfare scheme in order to avail the various benefits from the government.
