Can you remember the last time you had to connect with someone living thousands miles away?Very simple, wasn’t it? Just a click of a button and bang, you are connected.

No doubt technology has changed the way we live. From Social Media apps to video calling features, we live in a connected world.

But for some distant villagers in remote villages of Kottampatti , ‘connection’ is still a distant term . From health care facilities to medical consultation they have to travel far and wide.

Hence, it is with this vision of ensuring wellness to the community ,that Ms. Arunima Sarkar came up with the idea of setting up a ‘Virtual Wellness Centre’ in the villages of Kottampatti block.

“In the development sector, small progress keeps up the hope of the worker, same applies to me as am in a location where the language and culture is new. Even then the Ammas' and Akkas' of the village have accepted me with open arms and agreed to use the Incinerator and openly talks on a topic which is considered to be a taboo”

“The community is busy as they have to earn a livelihood, which results in ignoring the importance of addressing health issues at the preliminary stage leading to further complications. COVID-19 taught us the necessity of a strong health care network in the country to combat looming health emergencies”, she said, stressing on the importance of health and safety.

Further, she observed that there are serious issues regarding proper disposal of bio waste and hence she is attempting to build a sanitary napkin incinerator and place it within the community for regular usage.

She is currently planning on a street play which will be used as a medium of awareness for health and hygiene. The same will be broadcasted through Community Radio, according to her.
