Policy Advocacy
INAFI’s vision places the clients at the centre of development. It seeks to enable the poor to lead a life of dignity, have the opportunity to participate in their own development by providing access to financial services.In realizing this vision, INAFI recognize the critical role of microfinance interventions as part of the development strategy in eradicating root causes of poverty.
Keeping this vision in view, INAFI INDIA, as a network of practitioner NGOs implementing microfinance programmes has an important mandate of contributing to the growth of the microfinance sector. Towards meeting this objective, INAFI INDIA is involved in policy advocacy for developing pro-poor microfinance policies. More importantly, as a practitioners’ network, it brings the experience and lessons from the ground to the policy making process in order that right kind of policies are evolved for addressing poverty through microfinance programmes.
Having regard to the need to advance the alternative paradigm, keeping uppermost in mind the client perspective, INAFI INDIA work in policy advocacy in the Indian context would cover enabling legal regulatory framework that promotes, nurtures, and advances the people institutions at the grassroots and the ways and means of utilizing microfinance programmes for strengthening the process of social mobilization and to build a strong base of social capital.INAFI believes that the social capital of poor is a pre requisite for long term sustainability of microfinance programmes. Affordable microfinance is another key policy area. Contributing to evolving innovative financial instruments that go to strengthen the self help movement and its network of federations and providing a policy thrust for micro insurance services particularly mutual insurance solutions for the poor are the current policy issues, INAFI has chosen to advocate.
In this process, it works with Central and State Governments, Reserve Bank of India, NABARD and SIDBI and also Commercial Banks and also domestic and foreign philanthropies / donors.
