Water and Life: II Development Film Festival : 28-30 September, 2006.

The Centre for Development Communication of DHAN Foundation organised the II Development Film Festival on Water & Life at Gandhi Museum, Madurai, TamilNadu from 28-30, September 2006.



The response from the filmmakers was overwhelming. We have received about 60 entries ranging from one minute animation film to 80 minutes documentary film, carrying various dimensions of water. Sixteen of them were from other countries. The films were selected in two stages. In the stage one: a panel comprising of film makers, water experts and academicians selected 12 films from among the 60 for screening to the public. They were screened during evenings of the festival at Kumarappa Kudil in the Gandhi Museum.

As part of the Festival, dialogues were organised on the themes of Water and Media on the first day and Documentaries in Development on the second day of the Film Festival.

The film ‘Capital water-the story of Delhi’s 24×7’ directed by Sumit Roy, produced by Manish Sisodia (KABIR) won the First Prize. ‘Hunting down water’ directed by Sanjay Burnela & Vasant Saberwal and produced y Moving Images won the second prize. Under Students Category ‘Thannikkasu’ directed by Ponraj was given a consolation prize. They were awarded during the 10th Foundation Day Celebrations of DHAN Foundation, organised at Madurai on 2nd October 2006.
