Mostly the adults are given more attention while designing DRR practices such as preparing contingency plans through PRA, disaster drills forming the teams to handle the rescue, rehabilitation etc., duties. Inculcating and nurturing the spirit of DRR among school children is equally important as they are going to face more disasters in the context of adverse climate change in the future.

Involving the school children, a DRR educational package will be developed in consultation with the community, teachers, officials and civil society groups participating in the DRR activities. The programme will be conducted with the available children in the village. SAKTI has been working in these areas in disaster management and preparedness for a decade as a partner of Godavari action group in the central delta area, Amalapuram in the East Godavari district. This pilot would be carried out in five villages covering two high schools.

• Preparing contingent plan through PRA exercise.
• Preparing the diagram on institutional linkages.
• Forming the squads to face the different stages in DRR such as Preparatory stage, Precautionary stage, Action stage, Evacuation.
• Training school children in these activities through indoor and outdoor exercises.

• Teaching material prepared with the participation of school children from five villages and two schools in the work area.
