Disaster Risk Management through Community Based Multimedia Content

Information at the right time in the right form can save so many lives in many natural disasters. The Information can be given in the form of audio, video, text, etc. Community based multimedia content will be an effective tool for brining awareness among the community. The content should be relevant and needy for the community.
Awareness about disasters is very less among the rural community. Now-a-days, Lack of awareness about the Disasters, creating huge loss in human lives and live stocks. Hence it has become essential to create awareness about the disaster preparedness & management among the rural communities. The village information centres functiong in the villages show the potential and demand for locally relevant content. The offline contents are creating higher level of awareness in the easier way. The Multimedia contents can be used by Illiterates very easily.
The Content development would be piloted through 50 Village Information Centers in Madurai District. Then the initiative would be expanded to the other 112 VICs along the coastal area of Tamil Nadu.
- Equipping the VIC operators with the requisite skills for assessing resources for the hazards Drought, Flood and Epidemic dieses, developing content in various media/formats.
- Assessing the need for content through community workshops, resource consultation and group discussions.
- The VIC operators will develop the locally relevant content in their VICs. The content in different sectors developed by different operators will be organized at the hub center level, fine tuning process will be undertaken and the content will be finalized.
- Sharing the evaluated content to all VICs along with a schedule of content deployment process.
- Multimedia content in Video, Audio and text format on Drought, Flood, epidemic dieses
- Dissemination of content through VICs.
